The UK Home Office has announced an important update on maintenance funds requirements for international students applying for visas. The maintenance requirement is for student applicants to demonstrate they have enough funds to support themselves for each month of their course (up to nine months). Starting from 2 January 2025, this requirement will increase, aligning with the maintenance loans available to home students for the 2024-25 academic year.
Key changes include:
- For Studies Inside London: The monthly maintenance level will increase from £1334 to £1483.
- For Studies Outside London: The monthly maintenance level will rise from £1023 to £1136.
These updated requirements apply to visa applications made on or after 2 January 2025. Until then, current maintenance levels will remain in effect.
Accommodation Offset Increase
Students who have paid for accommodation can reduce their required maintenance funds by an amount equivalent to one month’s maintenance. This cap, currently £1334 for London-based students, will also rise to £1483 on 2 January 2025.
Review of Dependant Maintenance Requirements
The Home Office is also reviewing the maintenance levels required for student dependants, and updates will be provided in due course.
These updates are crucial for international students planning their studies in the UK, ensuring they meet the new financial requirements to support their stay.
